Multiple redirected domains getting multiple page #1 rankings. What to do?

    Hello,

I'm new here but hoping to learn. Thank you for having me.

I work with a franchise company that has two domain names that both point to the same page on the main company's website.

    It'd be like this:

OurCompanySpringfield.com (owned by the business owner)
    and
MajorCorporation.com/Springfield (owned by the major franchise company)

The first one is just a 301 redirect to the second one.

On many major searches they're showing up with the busines owner's owned domain in the local results and on the same page they're showing up as the domain that is owned by the major company in the organic results.

There are many key searches where they have 2 page 1 listings!

Do you think I should try to combine the accounts or shut one down to get better rankings overall? OR should I just say hey, just let it be, 2 rankings on the first page are good as it is?

Thanks, in advance, for anyone who would be kind enough to share their opinion.

    Thank you

Nobody has any thoughts on this... Did I post this in the wrong place or is it just a question people don't have any feelings or opinions about?

    Thanks!

I don't understand. If you are using a 301 from #1 to #2, then how are you seeing #1 results? I'm I missing something?

Thanks for replying! I just reread my post and it doesn't make sense. Sorry

It is a normal 301 redirect from #1 to #2.

(And #2 isn't a root domain, it's one page on the main company's domain specific to that franchise location. This is in the insurance business and the client is an agent for a major national company.)

The client setup multiple business listings across the web using their domain #1, including Google Places.

The main company also set up business listings on the client's behalf using the client's page on the main businesses website #2.

So Google thinks it's two different businesses and is allowing it to show up twice in the search results page.

    Does that make more sense?

Not really, sorry. If #1 is a 301 direct to #2, why are BOTH showing?
