Move forum to subdomain instead of main domain to boost seo on main domain ?

    Hello,

I have a blog and a forum in the same domain.

The forum have something like 2 million posts, but a good portion of it could be considered "thin content/low quality" by Google, as a lot of topics can have zero posts and such... without my control.

I think this is affecting the rankings of my blog as a whole.

Would be a good ideia to change the forum to a subdomain like forum.site.com or a new domain ?

If so, should I use 301 redirects or the redirects will make the problems the same even in the new domain ?

    Thank you all.

Changing from a folder structure to a sub domain is treated the same by google. They understand blogs can be either so changing it to a sub domain will not effect anything other than being able to host it separately and have separate analytics etc
Moving it to a new domain may damage your current site as I bet the blog must have some external links pointing to it which you would lose.

The proper solution is to clean up your blog and not throw it away which your solution would be doing really.
