Question Just 301 redirected...big traffic loss. Should I be concerned?

    Hey everybody -

I'd say I'm intermediate in my SEO knowledge. Anyway, did 301 redirects at this website of mine:

    http://www.anxietysupportnetwork.com

    Old url: something like: http://www.anxietysupportnetwork.com/toxic_effects_isolation.php

    New url: something like: http://www.anxietysupportnetwork.com/toxic-effects-isolation/

It was not a Wordpress install formerly. Just handcoded CSS by myself from years ago.

Followed bluehost's directions for migrating: https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/wordpress-migrate

It went from anxietysuppornetwork.org to anxietysupportnetwork.com

Now, that still left the old .php URLs in place. So, after redirecting, I deleted them to avoid duplicate
content (have a backup just in case it makes sense to restore).

I've been deleting all the old .php files to avoid duplicate content.

I verified all 301 redirects work by manually visiting each.

...And my organic traffic's fallen to 48 new users from Feb. 8-11, down from 376 from the 4th
    to the 7th.

That's quite a tumble. I heard you keep around 85% of your SEO value, so this surprised.

Anyway, just want some other opinions. Have I done anything wrong in the transition?

Anything I overlooked or should fix?

    Appreciate your thoughts,

    Dan

You guys are leaving out the t in the name...
The redirects are there... but there are other probems...
    The dot org

then he set preferred to www

Look at this one it tells you what the most likely causes are...

You are blocking the files in your robots.txt file for some reason, probably an error from misunderstanding how something works.

    Edited to add ,,,,
The "User-agent: *" means this section applies to all robots. The "Disallow: /" tells the robot that it should not visit any pages on the site.
    This is your robots file
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /
You have set the pages to noindex but followed, I suggest you remove these restrictions. Also consider installing SSL after you fix this.

I could find the redirection only on the home page, not for the deep pages.

FYI it doesn't redirect from .org to .com For example:

    http:// www. anxietysupportnetwork.com/products/ars.php redirects to --> http:// www. anxietysupportnetwork.com/products-for-anxiety-sufferers/

You are right. I removed that from robots.txt So now, it's just blank. Is that okay? I think it's been the way it has for years. Haven't touched the site in some time.

    Thanks for catching that.

Also, you were saying something about the WWW versus the non-WWW version of anxietysupportnetwork.com Any actions I need to take there?

Choose a version... either www or non-www and stick to it... that is best practice. Nether one is better than the other, but choose 1!

Ahh okay. I've gone with the www version. After updating the robots.txt, how long (roughly, I know you can't be precise) before I see my traffic levels restored, or nearly so?

I tend to wait 6 weeks for the full impact of any change.
