I live in Peterborough UK but I'm getting an unusually high amount of pointless traffic from the US and a high bounce rate with it. My hunch is that people are picking up my site when looking for services in Peterborough USA or Peterborough Canada.

How do I stop this happening ?

Have you used any specific geo-targeting in webmaster tools? There's always going to be some irrelevant traffic that comes into a site, but when it's international like that, good configuration in Webmaster Tools can go a long way.

They may be some bots? what is the source of traffic?
Maybe because your site is targeted for UK and is somehow ranking in north America which is irrelevant traffic.
