Help with subdomains appearing on search results

    Hi,

We have one main website and several sub domains (e.g. clienta.websitename.com, clientb.websitename.com, clientc.websitename.com etc) however they all point to the same website. Am not very techy, but the coding on the site changes the branding etc depending on their subdomain.

However some of the sub domains are appearing on google search results. Is there anyway I can block all the sub domains but keep the main website appearing on search results?

Hope that makes sense and thank you in advance for your help!

On each sub domain you need to include a robots.txt file in the root directory that blocks search engines. Therefore, you would have a text file at clienta.websitename.com/robots.txt that would include:

    Code:
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /
You can learn more about the robots.txt directive at: robotstxt.org

    Hi,

Thanks for that - but because they are all running from the one site - they are all running from the one folder therefore I can't put a robots file in each folder. Is there another alternative?

    Thanks

You may need to speak to someone at your hosting provider, or someone that has a better understanding of your technical infrastructure in order to implement this. Each system is different.
