H Tags... Could my pages be set up better?

    Ladies & Gents,

Just a quick one regarding the setup of the H tags on my site, particularly the product pages:

The only H1 tags on the page are the product name and colour/style in the sticky header, and due to styling requirements, the first paragraph of the product descriptions. I have been warned by some auto SEO audits to only have ONE H1 tag placement.

Also according to MOZ bar, my H2 tags are only the secondary headers on the page (i.e. the copy explaining the upsells and linked products, and also the headers on my LogMeIn pop-up)

This has all been set-up by my dev team...

Please have a peek at a product page to see how it is set up:
    https://www.ipsomofo.com.au/shop/fri...amp-small-blue

    Q's:

    • Will the inclusion of 2 areas of H1 tags affect me in a negative way?
    • Would it best to have the actual body copy of my product descriptions in H2?
    • Should i restructure the H tag set up on the pages to benefit SEO?
    • If so, what do you think would be the optimal way to structure this?

Thanking you in advance for your advice!

I agree with the SEOs who told you only to use one H1. Think of it like a headline in a newspaper. You get one sentence fragment to summarize your page in a way that people will then decide if they're going to read the rest. This is the only H1 that should be on your page:

    <h1 itemprop="name" class="product_title entry-title">Knot Pendant Lamp Small Blue</h1>

The second H1 (product description) is not a header, so it shouldn't be in an H tag.

You also have the logo in an H1. Don't do that.

No. Headers go in H tags, body copy has headers. By putting a massive amount of text in H tags, Google will see that
    1. You're trying to manipulate page rank, knowing that H tags carry a bit more weight, and
    2. You're devaluing the rest of the content on the page by having so much text in H tags

Don't use H1s or H2s for your body content. Only for the headings. That being said - you could add an H2 above the product description.

It's hierarchical. H1 is your main heading (Knot Pendant Lamp - Small Blue). Use H2s for the other headings on the page. If any of the sections below the H2s need subheadings, use H3s. In this example, consider

    <h1>Knot Pendant Lamp - Small Blue</h1>
    <h2>Vitamin Living Knot Pendant Lamps</h2>
    <h3>The Nitty Gritty</h3>
    <h3>Where It's At</h3>
    <h2>What Others are Saying</h2>

    Thanks Adam...

Looks like i should give my dev team a quick slap upside the head for proclaiming my site is "Optimized For SEO"... You are the third person in as many days to say pretty much the same thing about this set-up.. I will get this sorted asap, although i fear it may be more work than meets the eye. More money down the hole!

    Appreciate you sharing your wisdom.

    Paul
