Question Famous person with same name

Hello, I'm new here. My name's Ian and I'm a musician and a recent Business Marketing graduate. Unfortunately my course curriculum didn't sufficiently cover SEO, and I need some advice. I'm starting a blog and a general personal brand website. My problem is, however, that there is a very famous comedian who has the same name as I do. My question is, should I try to fight against this persons brand (since we are both in entertainment)? Or should I use a pseudonym (stage name) going forward, to build my brand? Or is there another way to approach this? I have a different name for my music project, but I wanted to use my personal brand so that I can cover a variety of topics other than music. Any thoughts and ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Depends on how famous the person is, if he is and has been around for a while your going to struggle.
Its not impossible but seeing as he will have history and your just starting out you will have a hard job overtaking him.
Could be best to use a pseudonym

    • whiterabbit agrees : I agree here, it may not be worth it the other person owns the whole first page.

His name is Ian Edwards. When you search our name, his Wikipedia, pictures, and movies come up on Google. I'm strongly considering switching to a pseudonym.

I would in your case use a pseudonym. Just my opinion.

Hmm... I totally disagree with you about pseudonym. It's your name. It`s real. You are unique. Why should you change your name because of somebody? It`s not clear for me. It`s my opinion.

In my opinion, you should use your real name by adding suffix or prefix to your name like Honey Singh do, Yo Yo Honey Singh. If your name is included in your stage name then you have to use that name to compete for your competitor who has the same name.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'm going the pseudonym route and using a different last name. Is there anyway to find out which names would be easiest to rank?

Maybe PPC is your answer, I would think it would be inexpensive.

You mean like Adwords? I feel like people kind of ignore adwords for the most part, young people at least.

I'm thinking about using Iain Edwards (an alternate spelling of my name). Even though it may not have much of a ring to it, at least I could keep my name. I was able to get iain-edwards.com as a domain for fairly cheap, as well.
