    Domain

If you read my earlier post i was struggling with finding data for my site. Now I have found software that was telling me what I was looking for. I am now more confused. The soft ware is telling me that my site can be found with both URL www. And no www. It says this could be bad for me.i have been sending all my external links to my subdomain www. Is this why I have been struggling with finding data for my links.
    Cheers glyn

You need to decide if you prefer the www or none www version. Once decided then you need to redirect all traffic from the one your not using.
This normally is quite easy to achieve but does depend on your setup on how.

the easy test to see if the domain is setup correctly is to visit your site in a browser with domain then www.domain and look to see if you get the same page and if the address changes in the address bar.
If both versions as setup up then it has the effect of you having 2 sites which the software is correct, its not good for your SEO as both will be competing with each other

Thank you again for your help,
I think I'm finally getting somewhere. Is this issue down to me using web builder and not c-panel. If I use a c-panel version then I could sort this out.

The end result i.e. you pages are just HTML, how they are generated is not the issue but the site configuration is.
If you have access to cpanel then it sounds like your linux system so you would need to edit your htaccess file.

something like the follow should be added (replace example, com with your domain)

    #Force www:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [L,R=301,NC]

    or

    #Force non-www:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.example\.com [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://example.com/$1 [L,R=301]

However I dont tend to do a lot with linux systems so you may want to do your own research or one of our wordpress experts may know if the above is correct.

Chedders here is a working example that the op can use...

This sets preferred to www and https....takes two rules one to catch non www urls and one to catch www urls and as you said replace yourdomain.com with your site

#This catches all non www and non https urls and adds www and https
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yourdomain.com [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.yourdomain.com/$1 [L,R=301,NC]

#This catches all non https www urls and makes them https
    RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

One thing more don't forget to add each as a separate site If your site supports multiple protocols including HTTP:// and Https:// to your Search Console account. So in the end, you have four websites to add in your Search Console. like
    http://www.example.com
    https://www.example.com
    http://example.com
    https://example.com
