    DNS Redirect & SEO

Hey all, I have an easy to remember domain/tld that redirects to a more keyword rich .com domain.

The redirect is a 401 at the DNS level.

Question is, will this hurt the performance of indexing? Do you think it would be better to just use the "catchy" domain?

    The url is : theCondo.rent/

    Thanks for your input. ))

I assume you mean a 301 redirect as a 401 is a refused connection for the credentials given.
If you are doing a 301 then you lose a little bit of link juice for each redirect but technically its not generally worth worrying about. However of course it would be best not to lose this even if it is minimal so if you have a domain you like then use it. I doubt you will see much difference, although it looks less spammy endup up on a site you clicked on.

Ah yes... 301. Thanks for the input Chedders.

Do you put much weight in the keyword rich url? ... the one it redirects to?

It all helps but but it may not be the magic pill your seeking. URL, page title, H1 tags all of these areas are worth looking at plus of course content that matches these.
