    Waste of time.

    Do analysis on your website.

Extremely agree with you... there are lot's of tools are available on net and those all are paid tools. And even after paying, they'll provide you an uncountable link and all most all links are useless. So, it's better to analysis individually, cause there's a chance to get something.

    I disagree with this.

My logic behind this is if you're looking at targeting a variety of keywords and you choose to target x, y and z. Then without analysing your competitors to see their SEO efforts, you may just be wasting your time trying to rank for these keywords when there are a lot of bigger and better websites currently targeting these keywords.

Also, you can use this competitor analysis to see how your website can improve, as if they have done something that works well and people engage, perhaps something similar can be implemented on your own site.

If you are not an EXPERT (self-proclaiming or not) you can't begin to understand the difference between what is helpful & what is harmful.

If you learn strictly from analyzing your own website you'll avoid introducing damaging stuff.

But I can certainly see how a ranked website, that is ranked MUST BE PURELY DOING WHITEHAT SEO... simply because it is ranking right now.

You'd make a GREAT BRAIN SURGEON!
