    Changing search results with canonical

    Hi,

    problem is following:

    Client have one website with multiple languages (languages are defined with canonical tags) and also they have two brand names (domains). Lets call them domain A and domain B.
    So far they are visible with domain A. Now they want to replace certain country results with domain B. As I understand I need to change only canonical tag related with this language + adding new property (domain B) to Webmaster tools and just waiting for google to take changes?

    And how about offsite jobs - is it too risky to start building links (for domain B) already or is it too early?
    Thanks.

    BR.

    The best thing to do is set up proper 301 redirection for your pages.

    You could also add rel alternate language tags on the pages remaining on Domain A

    Let's imagine english in on Domain A and French is to be moved to domain B then you would have to add the following code to the page http://domainA.com/en/product1
    Code:
    <link rel="alternate" href="http://domainB.com/fr/product1" hreflang="fr" />

    • whiterabbit agrees : 100% correct...a proper use of rel="canonical" actually DEINDEXES the dup page..
