    Analytics tracking

    Hey folks,

First time poster. I work in Higher Ed and am setting up analytics goal/conversion tracking. The problem is, in the UK, people apply through a third-party website (UCAS).

Any ideas for goal tracking metrics? I'm thinking of setting up an 'Events goal' for the 'Apply Now' CTA which takes them to the corresponding course page on UCAS...and a 'Destination Goal' for 'Make an Enquiry'.

Anything else I'm missing? The problem is, there's this black hole between them visiting our website and applying through this 3rd party, so tracking conversion is notoriously difficult.

    Cheers,

    Rhys

Have you tried contacting UCAS directly?

I'd be surprised if they didn't offer something to help you with this.

We had a similar issue with a hotel company where the actual bookings went through a 3rd party site, but they were happy enough to add some code in so we could see the value of all bookings/reservations etc.

Oh really? What sort of code? We can find out if we're sending users to them through event tracking, but I don't really see what else they can tell us. Obviously we get all application data as standard (number of applications etc).

Ah, I was under the impression you couldn't see the amount of applications going through.

Setting up an event goal that takes users to the UCAS site, and comparing it with the numbers of applications would give you the conversion rate.

Didn't think of it in terms of conversion rate - good point! Thanks!
