    Affiliate links

I may have far too many affiliate links and saw an article today on how to get around the problem in a way that might be acceptable to Google.

I am not into php and in fact my knowledge of anything beyond basic html/css defeats me...although my site has developed with the help of the Internet and various helpful souls in coding forums...

What I am trying to work out is what I have to do, especially when it comes to the actual placing of the affiliate code.

    I understand that I can

    1. add the code as it is in the article to my .htaccess without affecting what I have there already
    2. Do I use the php file exactly as it is, and where do I place it? In the root directory?
    3. The redirects.txt seems too simple to me as affiliate code is usually quite long.
    4. And the bigger question: what do I write in my html file instead of the affiliate code?

I am sorry if I am leaning on you to solve this problem. I would like to try it out in a sample page to see if it actually works, both technically and in terms of Google rankings.

    Thank you very much.

    Hey Qim,

Can you share your solution, in case other users come across the same issue?

Thanks and glad you resolved it!

    Hi.

You're right; I should have left some explanation.

The fact is that it did work, and did not work!

First, I managed to set up the redirections in order to cloak the affuiliate links (I had 30 on one page!). Then, I read that one of the things Google penalizes you for is cloaking links..., so I deleted all the hard-work I had done and deleted all the links, on that page! Problem solved.

i also returned to this forum and deleted the link to the article as it seems a bit silly to suggest to hide something that will not be hidden to Google and will only cause you problems. if anyone did read the article, the setup is as stated there. I am the one that has difficulty following instructions...

I wrote a long reply and it has disappeared... Where is it?
