    301 Chained Redirect

Hi I migrated my old blog 3pardude.com to the new address d8tadude.com. Both sites were hosted on wordpress.com and the migration was completed 1 month ago. I used a 301 redirect from the old name 3pardude.com to the new d8tadude.com, it is a limitation of wordpress.com you can only do a 301 redirect to a non https site this means I have effectively ended up with a chained redirect: https://3pardude.com redirects to http://d8tadude.com which then in turn redirect to the https version of d8tadude.com.

I have been hit hard with a loss of page rank since the migration (search traffic down 50%). I believe I followed the Google best practice guide for a migration including a change of address form. My question is how likely is it this chained redirect that is causing the loss of rank or could it be some other factor? Or as I am only 1 month post migration should I remain patient and wait longer?

If the chained redirect is believed to be a key issue my only option as I see it is to migrate to wordpress.org, or do we think this additional change will only compound the issues.

    Thoughts on this welcome 

Well you first problem is using wordpress.com. You seriously need to move it from that free hosting package (i assume) and move it to some proper hosting.
Yes you very much can redirect from a http site to a https site but that could be the limitation on the .com platform only.

Chaining redirects is bad news, 2 you should be ok with but it will drastically effect your crawl budget, Get some proper hosting sorted for a few bucks a month which will then give you the freedom to get rid of these redirect problems you seem to be having.

You mention only 2 redirects but what about the www version of your site ? could the www also be in the chain ?
    IMHO
