why our site disappeared, no longer a question
A couple weeks ago, I sent in a question as to why our site disappeared from the MSN search rankings. The answer was as obvious as the pie on my face.
Our server was using a redirect to send the people to the correct page if they were an affiliate, consumer, or special producer. This worked ok with the search engines. The new MSN, however, was caching a page generated by IIS that said, this page has been moved. So, we installed a module on our IIS that re-writes the page url and gives the incoming visitor www.xxxxxxx.com instead of www.xxxxxx.com/xxx/jsp/index.jsp
MSN has now cached our real page, as of yesterday, and we have rocketed to #207 (big whooppee) but I do expect future rises. Our results in other engines have also been substantial. Since last friday, we have seen dramatic increases in our secondary key words.
So, if you are having problems, do a search for your url in MSN and then look at the cached page. Is it what you expect? If not, look at what you need to do to get the proper page served.
