Unhappy Why? MSN, Why?

My site was very well ranking until yesterday for 4 very competitive words. There is no spam or dodgy stuff on the page.

What happened to me is for my all my rankings for the domain name is gone totally, my other pages are coming up for some of the searches but of course on 4-5th pages.

Could my sites home page be banned for some reason or could it be a glitch?

What I suspect is that I was maintaining the site last night and MSN crawled within that time. My home page is not deindexed and can be viewed if i made a search with site:www.mydomain.com

So i dont understand what happened? Does anyone have a similar experience?

MSN was doing something over the past few days - my site was showing without the "www" and now it is showing with the "www" - dropped initially, but back almost where I was. Be patient.

I've seen really similar stuff. I've been #1 for awhile for my main keyword, now at #12 and instead of showing home pages its showing much less important pages from my site. Patience is a virtue (I hope!) I'm losing a few hundred bucks a day!

Same here. My main site was #1 for a very competitive money term for a long time. An inside page was #12 for the same phrase. A secondary site was #3.
Now my index page is #12 and the inside page is #3. The secondary site is number 6.
Let's hope it will change again.

Is this the MSN dance effect? I was #4 for a competitive word also and it took forever to get that position and I have no clue where it's at now.

I hope its the dance and not some algo change. Its so weird how less relevant interior pages are now ranking better than home pages. That to me indicates a dance and not an algo change.

I think it's going to be awhile before we see any consistency with msn search. From my limited understanding of how it works, it's almost designed into the process.

My index page used to rank #1. I updated the title of a long unchanged internal page and then all this mess happened. Now my internal page ranks at #13 for the kw and index page was deindexed.

Anyone think I should:

a) Leave the changes to the internal page
b) Return the internal page's title to what it was previously
c) Do something else?

I've been updating some news on the index page and adding fresh content on internal pages in the hopes of getting some pages reindexed. I'm down to about 20 pages now from about 70 before.

Is it legal to quote yourself???

It worked. Well, I'm not sure if my updates had anything to do with it honestly, but I'm back at #2. 29 pages indexed (up from 20 yesterday). Can't hurt to add fresh content and updates for the SE that loves them the most can it? My rankings were only upset for 3 days.
