Where's the Clicks?
Hello all, I've just achieved a #2 position on MSN and have yet to see a click from it. Since it has been less than 24 hours since gaining that position, I may be jumping the gun, but here's my question anyway:
How many clicks should I expect from a #2 ranking on MSN given the following details? According to the Overture Keyword Selector Tool, the keyphrase I have optimized for receives 2000 searches a month. Maybe someone here knows the approximate translation between Overture and what can be expected out of MSN. Another concern is that the number of searches reported might be inflated since I am in the very competitive online gambling space. Last month when I started the process of optimization, Overture reported nearly 5,000 searches for the same keyword. Loosing 3,000 search requests in one month seems like a pretty steep drop-off, but I'm not very fluent in how the Selector Tool really works. Any help would be appreciated for this newbie question. |

I have a website in #2 position on msn for 3 competitive keywords, and all 3 generate a click or 2 per day...
try searching a keyphrase in singular and in plural in msn, and you will see a lot of difference in the results. msn is still far away from displaying something relevant, they only go for the "exact" word. |

What are they supposed to go for? All search engines have different results for singular and plural. |

The truth is it is a very small percentage on everthing except webmaster related terms (although they are also signifigantly lower) MSN overall is still failing to deliver traffic in the majority of industries. This will hopefully change in the near future but they still don't hold a candle to Google. |

I use digital point's keyword suggeston tool. MSN does not give nearly as much traffic as Yahoo or Google. I do get nice traffic from them however. MSN has been the quickest to rank me for any targeted keywords.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Interestingly enough, we have other pages accidentally optimized for much less popular searches according to Overture. Like 30-50 searches per month, yet MSN delivers maybe 1 or 2 clicks a week for those. Based off of that, maybe MSN is delivering 10% of the searches that Overture shows.
Wondering if anyone has done research into this and has an estimate of traffic (eg: if Overture says there are 100 searches performed a month, then that equals ## on MSN, ## on Yahoo, ## on Google)? Still waiting for the 1st click from MSN based on the #2 position. |

I, at one point, owned the site with the #1 ranking in MSN for home loans and home loan. I got approximately two handfuls of visitors a day combined for the search phrases.
Another set of phrases (plural and singular), which I still rank #1 for, had basically the same overture numbers, delivers 10 times the traffic a day from MSN. Who knows why. Titles? Description? Company Name? Not MSN's market? I played with it, but could never make it worth while before I abandoned it. I am definitely skeptical about Overture anymore and most certainly won't use their data for competitive phrases. It's just not reliable imho. Anyway, could be any number of factors for the phrase not delivering.
