Quantity of links, keywords at beginning and end of META descriptions and on the page, keyword stuffed title. Do all that and you should be fine. Note that age of site is largely not a factor.

I agree about the age not being a factor.
I have some new sites doing very well in MSN. I think MSN realy likes my XHTML code because I have all of the content first in the code, then the links. I make use of all the general SEO basics to do with code semantics and they always rank very well very quickly for some competetive terms.

Backlinks.
I asked a question recently about MSN's emphasis on backlinks. One of the members here stated "The more links [on MSN] the merrier." I have my seen a brand new site of mine rise consistently to near the top for my main keyphrase by adding links almost daily. Keep in mind also that MSN likes your keywords/phases near or at the top of the page that you are optimizing. This particular site was only up for a month and Google even gave it a PR5. |

For ranking high in MSN, backlinks are main. Just get good quality backlinks, use proper keywords & optimize your site properly.

Clearly they still favor URLs with keywords in the variables, in addition to any link imaginable.

IMO, MSN is continually manipulating the ranking factors... SERP's are all over the place for alot of the sites that I work with. An example, one of my newish sites was #3 for a couple of months for a medium competitive term. Then for two weeks it was on page six, now for the last few days it's been at about #5. It's silly to be all that concerned about it until it gets stable enough to really identify how much stuff matters.
I agree with Cygnus though about the links. Everything seems to count with them.

IMO MSN likes overstuffed everything (titles, meta content, and body copy) combined with lots of kw stuffed backlinks. I wouldn't go too far to just please MSN though, because the other engines have less tolerance for overstuffing.

MSN likes links links and more links. Say that 10 times fast and you'll have good rankings.
