Weird MSN behaviour

One of my sites seems to be fluctuating in and out of the top 10 of MSN for a competitive keyword. When I mean in and out I mean that it's either in the top 10 for that particular keyword for a few days and then disappears for that particular term. I have also noticed that en route to disappearing it will still feature in the top 10 for UK only searches.

It might not be much to some but when you are sanboxed on G its nice to have some traffic from MSN so it would be good to know what is causing this so I can try to rectify any issues.

Does anyone have a clue as to why this erratic behaviour? Is that normal for MSN?

I see the same on some newer sites, top ten or gone. I'm not stressing about it because I've seen very little consistency with any of their results from when they went solo on the search and they always come back... at least so far.

Weird Behavior

The same thing has happened to me with one of my newer sites as well. Yesterday, it was nowhere to be found. (My web stats verified this.) Today, it is #6 for my main keyword. For this same site, the number of backlinks has been fluctuating greatly as well. One day, the number is 1,400, the next day it is something like 1,700, and then the number drops down to 500. Then the entire cycle starts all over again. I just can't figure this out.

Rounds like they are using roll-back algo's (and results from a past date) until they refine whatever they're trying to do.

Most of these search engines act weird. I'm beginning to wonder if they rotate algo's and results just to keep us guessing and to keep everybody on the edge of their seo chair. It would also make things a little bit more fair for some, in a sense.
