I was wondering if by changing a website's description would it have any affect on website ranking in msn search?

on every search engine description has an impact but of course you should focus on the content.
Both are important.

I have been thinking of getting a new script/website but I don't want it to hurt my ranking. I might just have to get a TEMPLATE instead

Are you talking about meta description?

If so, yes, it could help, but even if meta description has not value at all in the ranking algorithm, I see Google and sometimes also Yahoo! and MSN using it in the SERPs, so you best bet would be to have a relevant meta description for your site's content and orientation.

Maybe google and the other SE dont use them, but meta description for marketing is one of the best things you can add to a website....
