Our site did ok for its target keyword, travel insurance, on MSN. We've now disappeared on the beta. They have cached our page but we don't even appear in a search for our company name. We still do ok in yahoo and google, certainly not great. I've optimized with short keyword rich title, h1, h2, h3 tags, repeated the keywords in the body without over doing it, we don't spam the alt tags for accessibility reasons, but do try to use the keywords if it works with the image, all images and links have titles for accessibility, the page is xhtml1.0 transitional valid with css layout...
I know we need more inbound links and I am working on that. I hate to send out a plea for help from the board. I know you've got better things to do than look at every site asking for help, but what do you think is going wrong? Has anyone seen other sites that have vanished on the MSN search? I sent them a suggestion to add the site but I doubt that will do any good. Here's the site: www.csatravelprotection.com Thanks Ted |

You've got sessionID's in your URLs.
That'll pretty much ruin your shot of doing well in any search engine =\ |

I had a similar experience with my site.
It was at #1 for my main search term and then slipped to 18. It then disapeared completely for about two months. I cleaned up anything that I could find which may have been seen as black hat and asked msn to put me back in the results (my site could still be found by searching for the url). msnbot continued visitting, but nothing moved. I then thought the problem may have been because my site is hosted in Europe and not in the states, so I put a duplicate site up on a US server. I banned google and yahoo from the new url and banned msn from the old one (returned a 403). I left it that way for a month or so and noticed that the msnbot slowed down its crawling on the european site but never bothered looking at the US site at all. about a week ago I allowed msnbot back into the european site (assuming that what I had done wasn't going to work) and almost imediately I found it at #71. yesterday it went up to #17. I have no idea whether the things I did had any real effect or if it would have come back all by itself... Still, it seems to be back which is the main thing. As for Yahoo - I'll be needing to use the US site for them (another story and here is the wrong place to talk about it) |

Don't panic straight away.
Sometimes you're site will drop in the serps for no apparent reason and then pop back a few days later. However I do suggest that you stop using session IDs in you URL the http://www2.csatravelprotection.com...3A5B6 7B579279 for your "What is Travel Insurance" would do a whole lot better if it were http://www2.csatravelprotection.com...ravel-insurance

I had the same thing happen to my site www.gatewayhomeloans.com this week. I'm trying to figure out the same thing of what happened to make my site not get listed anymore. One thing I noticed yesterday when I did the command link:www.gatewayhomeloans.com in the msn search bar is that a whole bunch of strange results showed up saying the site was linked from msnbc, hotmail, and a few other msn news sites. When I looked at the cached results of the hotmail link it had the hotmail login page cached with my old email in the username box, but those results disappeard today so I guessing there was some kind of glitch that's been resolved. Hopefully the results will show our site again soon.
