Tuna and MSN going to take percentage share from google!

let me set the scene.
I am sitting here eating my tuna sandwich and having a drink.
I log into MSN 7 beta and it tells me there is an update
I download it
BAM massive number of new features

Most are great but not applicable to here. The one that is however is the inclusion of MSN SEARCH right in each and every message window!
Type something, hit search Which is next to the send button, and blam, search results from msn with links to go find more. This could drive an exponential volume of traffic to the MSN search engine especially as chatting about things can make you want to find out about things.

Good thing google recently bought and IM client ;)

EDIT: Details here http://www.imagine-msn.com/messenger/post/bonus/search/

Since early 2005 my search traffic changed from about 50% google to about 55% google meanwhile MSN probably dropped from 10% to 9%...all without changes in serps for either engine.

We will see how long it takes for MSN to gain market share.

Dave

Yes, I totally agree. M traffic is pathetic comparing to G or Y. Just because they came out with some nifty features does not mean anything. They need to come up with relevant results and that part suffers.

True, however think about the large number of people using MSN chat that do not know anything about "relevant" results. Especially teenages all over the world. Its more a case of "extra traffic" to MSN and their adverts / advertisers.

You must not know anything about teenagers. Most teenagers are more internet savvy than your average 30 year old. I was making web sites when i was 13 and now 8 years later my parents still don't the first thing about the internet ;)

Erm yes, i was much the same ;)

But there are a very large number of teenagers who use it mainly for the community and chatting aspect than anything else. Of course this is all open to pure speculation, however it would be silly to think that adding their search to such a wide spread client will have no effect at all.

Plus the update puts the msn toolbar, msn homepage, and shortcuts everywhere! Of course you can un tick these on install ;)

Anyway, it was more of a "heads up" that this feature was out in the wild now.

Seems it just came out of beta in the last few days.

Just download the latest:
http://messenger.msn.co.uk/

That should have it
I cant seem to find a beta download link anymore they all redirect to this main version which seems to have all the features. ;)

I just find my search traffic pathetic in general.. I am doing good to get 20 or so a day from SE's but this might be due to fact my sites are still young... started right before Jan.

SunnyMonkey knows the score. MS will simply (and persistently) chip away at the SE traffic until there is little to nothing left. It's inevitable, it's Microsoft.

We rank very well in MSN and still receive very little traffic from them. They're gonna have to offer something big if they want to dominate the SE market.

For us Google was sending 90% of our traffic, but now Im seeing MSN moving up. Its more looking like 30-40% msn, 5-15% Yahoo and the rest Google.

When MSN feels that its time to remove Google they will!
