The importance of backlinks in MSN...

Hi, I though backlinks is very important in msn search?

When I look at the term I am trying to optimize for I see that the top 3 got lot less links then me... WHY?

#1 - 11 links
#2 - 130
#3 - 5

#7 (my site) - 204 links

Yep... having one minister/priest/rabbi/immam say you are honest is better than 10 drunks saying the same.

Its not always about the quantity. Quality weighs more. Try getting more quality links (I.e. authority sites with similar topics) And then wait and see if your ranking improves.

Well they might be weak in quantity but its the quality which wins not the quantity.

MSN and Yahoo have shown interest in counting links recently and they are gradually forgetting about focusing only on onpage optimization.

Yes, I too agree that MSN values quantity of backlinks more than the quality of backlinks. The ranking score that the fellow has mentioned is not just due to backlinks but the 'keyword' used as well.
If I check for "Mandar Thosar" my site will come on top even though I have very few backlinks because my page is optimised for that keyword.
So what was the keyword you searched for?

With regards,
Mandar Thosar
