Ranking with internal pages

hi

just a quick question on internal pages and ranking them.
I have pages that rank at no1 and I have done this by having about 8 or 10 internal links on each page there is not competition as there is no more that 1-4 million when putting in keyword on msn.what I want to know is can this same theory be done for higher ranking keywords by using more internal links on different pages

You internal linking structure aids in spreading your PR around to your key or primary pages. However, to compete against stiffer competition your results will be driven by the quality and quantity of external backlinks. The more competitive the keyword the higher the number of quality external backlinks to those internal pages will be required to place well in the SERPs.

When you say that you have 8-10 internal links on each page, are these links 8 links pointing to one page or 8 links pointing to eight pages?

I have seen some of my internal site pages actually improve their rankings by having say 2-3 links on one page that link to another internal page. This only appears to help in MSN and not in Yahoo.

The effect of an internal link as a backlink is very small and only one link from a page within your site with your targeted keyword as the anchor text will be enough.

For getting your internal pages ranked for competitive keywords..you'll need to optimize the pages separately. Get backlinks specifically pointing to those pages and do whatever else you would do to optimize your homepage.

Remember, we optimize websites page-by-page.

hi

yes 8 to 10 internal links that point to different pages this has helped me with ranking.the problem it seems it can only get you so far and getting inbound links for internal pages proves a little hard as directories dont like deep linking
