Question

Today, my website suddenly dropped in rankings from top tens to 60's on MSN. Also, my URL listing on the SERPS now reads www.mydomain.com/index.html instead of just www.mydomain.com Might these two things be related in any way?
Thanks

Answer

Have you done anything to change your page's content? Do you use BH techniques on it? Have you done any off-page SEO? Have you been gathering BL's? Has your site been dropping steadily over time or just a sudden, one-time drop from 10s to 60s? How long ago? Has your site been bouncing between ranks?

Any of these could be the cause/issue you're seeing at this stage.

The only thing I can think of is that its possible I may have linked out to a bad neighborhood. If I remove the suspected links, should my rankings return if that was the problem, or would they keep the filter on me?

MSN is currently going through an update, quite a few sites have lost or gained positions in the SERPS. If I were you, I'd wait a while and see if anything changes, if by next week, nothing changes, then it's time to remove those links!

Good luck.

I second that!

Many of us seemed to have lost substantial ground on MSN for some reason.

I think we need to give it a week and see where we stand then, in the case that it's just some kind of algorithim change.

I've seen a 'bad neighborhood tool' mentioned here before but can't seem to find it. Does anybody know its URL?
