No Ink in MSN?

This could just be an quirk, but this morning I checked "payday loan" in MSN and it would seem that the web results (first few pages at least) are all provided by MS, with none from Ink. Granted, this may be regional, and is more than likely temporary. Still though...strange.

Inktomi is owned by Yahoo. Maybe they don't feed their results anymore to MSN or maybe MSN, since they are venturing out on their own does not want to use a Yahoo fed search.

It was widely believed within our little community that MSN would be using Inktomi for at least until the end of the year (The MSIE bot hasn't been all that active); I was hoping someone else could confirm that their results in MSN are devoid of Inktomi sprinklings this morning.

I noticed that on the MSN pages it is saying "beta" and the rankings are different than ink on my keywords. Thinking maybe testing there bot. Hope so, I love the rankings.

I looked into it more. The inktomi pages are still lumped into the Web Results, but the old Looksmart directory pages are back...a bit irritating, but at least understandable.

I'm hoping that this is temporary, because MSN can't show off the results of their MSIE bot when the pages are clouded with for-pay directory listings.

Everyone is testing. MSN has been rotating pure Ink into their results for the last week on many of the computers I look at, but not all. Yesterday it was back to LS + Ink, but then back to just Ink today (below sponsored and featured sites of course).

Yahoo is doing the same. My work pc has been showing pure Ink results for almost a whole week! However, everyone else in the office is still seeing Goolge results, and my home pc shows Google still so I guess I'm one of the lucky few with a peek at the test bed. Reminds me quite a bit of pre-Florida Google results actually, so I really hope Ink gets a shot at the prime time for at least a little while...

ink results

Yes, everyone seems to be testing and switching things up lately.
However, I have not seen any looksmart data in MSN for several days. The contract between these two companies was not renewed this last time around. Does anyone know the official end date?

Great News!

Just got this off of Danny Sullivans site....

LookSmart has announced that its deal to provide Microsoft with listings for its MSN Search service is not being renewed, leaving the company without its most important partner.

LookSmart's deal to power the main web search results for MSN in the United States and elsewhere has been extended for just over a month to run through mid-January 2004. However, LookSmart listings will be dropped from the MSN Search UK site by the middle of this month, according to MSN.

I'm seeing directory results again for the term "payday loan", though not for some of the other terms I monitor. Such a strange phenomenon...I wonder if MSN is just throwing the directory listings on for one or two days a week to cover the cost of running the engine.
