Does anybody know any reason why after I converted to ASP from HTML those ASP pages aren't in the index? It's been 6 months since the conversion - the home pages ranks fine, and there are some links pages in ASP that rank fine, but my other internal pages just aren't in the index!
Could the URLs be too long? |

If you are using lots of lengthy parameters I would suggest you avoid them.

Yes they are quite lengthy! I noticed pages with one parameter seem okay.

Do you have the ability to run Isapi rewrite on your site?

Dynamic Pages and Problems with Listings
Hi there.... i would have kept your site static to be honest but now that you've done it you need to keep the parameters and URL's as short as possible. If your site uses session id's this should also be avoided and removed if at all possible.
The main problem with dynamic pages and long parameters is the possibility of duplicate content and this may well be the reason that google isn't listing your site properly. The length of the URL can prevent google from venturing further into the site because it has no idea where or to what page it's going to be visiting. Basically it doesn't want to get lost so it stops. I'd definitely shorten the parameters as much as possible and also ensure that they contain actual text as opposed to obscure numbers etc. Aldo try and ensure that you have a search friendly site map. i.e links to all the relevant pages with a little short descriptive paragraph of what the link is about. Give the spider somehting to get hold of. You could also try Google's Sitemap. It's their way of encouraging sites with dynamic or difficult pages the opportunity to get listed. Hope thats of help. Yesterday i (apache)rewritten dynamic phps to static. Usually MSN checked 1 or maybe 2 dynamic pages in a day (my parameters were something like ?xxx=showfull&node=112345678&ucat=9), but since i rewritten them, MSN crawled 10 pages in and 1h.
Obviously (in my case) MSN likes static much more than dynamic. |
