New SEO contest with 50 prizes
Hi all,
There is a new contest to check who can get his site to the first position, only now all you need to do is to get into the first 50 positions in order to win $100. Since each participate can’t win more than one prize, and since there are 50 prizes, I don’t care to share the info with you guys, so you can win as well. Just do me a little favor, if you’ll decide to enter the contest, don’t forget the man who told you about it, and give me a little link to my page. The competition page: <snip> My page: <snip> Thanks in advance, Ben Last edited by Jasontnyc : September 2nd, 2005 at 04:02 PM. |

I will put it more bluntly...This is a scam. Basically in order to enter this "SEO Contest" you need to link back to the sponsor - a casino site.
What happens is that in SEOing your own site you actually help the "sponsor" site and they in turn have a network of over 50 satelite sites. Low and behold when 100s or even 1000s of uneducated webmasters enter this contest at the hope of an easy $100 (most of them young kids to whom $100 is a months allowance), they unknowingly propel the satellite sites into the top 50. Therefore it costs the sponsor nothing and they build up a ton of clean links they wouldn't have had a chance of getting otherwise. By setting the prize so the Top 50 get some $100, it makes people think it will be easy. If you had ever played the game at the fair where you have to get the softball to stay in the wicker basket and spent $100s trying to get a $10 prize, you will understand what this "competition" is about |

I was trying to be subtle for once
Maybe the people that enter these silly scam competitions just want to be part of something. While they are chasing $100 rainbows they leave the rest of the serps for us, so i guess its not such a bad thing. |

Woohoo! A contenst! I can do lots of work with a high risk of no return! What a deal! Everyone sign up for this contents and waste their time please... especially those who are my competitors. That way I can work on beating you in the SERPs.
Okay, just kidding. What a scam that OP is. |

This is a "good" idea, but it is not as good as that "good" as that backgammon "SEO contest".

Recently there was a 'fortuno winnero' contest exactly like this one, made it to the 7nd place with an anti-gambling page. Much more fun

Sometimes SEO related SPAM's are left (without live links) for educational purposes. There are a lot of people that would be lured into this and I think its important to have an open discussion on the possible downside of these "contests" which are springing up everywhere. |
