Exclamation My Site Dropped from Nr. 1 to Nr. 2 Spot!

My site 'free-emoticons.net' (keyword: free emoticons) dropped from nr. 1 to nr. 2 spot in MSN!

At this moment Web site 'freeemoticons.atspace.com' is nr. 1 since it was cached few days ago!

If I check this site's link popularity then I see that it has much less back links then me, so it must be my 'content'!!

How can I get my nr. 1 spot back by optimizing my content?
I know that a small change might do the job!! But what?

- Anyone tips when a web site dropped from 1st spot to let see 2nd spot how to get back my position?
- What do you suggest to change: more back links OR changing my content a little bit?

- What should I change about my content (title, header, adding new info, etc.) in order to get back my nr. 1 spot??

Let me know soon...

Many thanks in advance for your help & time!

Mike

MSn moves it results around all the time thus i'd keep doing what your already doing.. a drop of 1 place is natural from time to time... This is something you shouldn't worry about and just keep working and what got your to the no1 place..

I have also seen this from time to time. My site is #1 and sometimes a new site is coming and pushes me to #2. Then, after 3-4 days I pop again at #1 without even moving a finger.
It seems to me that Msn is pushing new pages but it only lasts a couple of days (and if it lasts longer, then you should start to worry).

Don't worry!?
But I see clearly the difference if I check my statcounter regarding traffic between nr.1 OR NR. 2 spot. I think that traffic decreased maybe with 40%!!

I was in this situation for awhile - always going back and forth between #1 thru #3. And all of the same websites were shuffling in and out of the rankings.

My advice - keep adding backlinks. Submit to directories or use link vault, but just keep adding links at a certain rate.

Within a week or so, I would be willing to bet that you could stand a good chance at being #1 again, being that your competitors are passive for the time being.

Thanks

- I think Link Vault doesn't accept all sites, correct?
- What is by the way the difference between adding my URL to Directories OR adding backlinks? Which one has more Quality & WHY?

Link Vault only accepts quality sites which pages are cached.
If you don't think yourself that your site is a quality one, then it won't definitely be for LV.

When you are adding your link to directories, you may get BL (you just have to ensure that the links to you are not javascript links, redirect or with the nofollow attribute).
Backlink are links to your site and have nothing to do with quality.
Quality links are links on pages related to your site, embedded if possible in text and few links to other pages. Apart from some exception directories links are not quality links either.
Without buying or exchanging links, you will only get quality links if your page has something interesting to offer.

You might also want to submit your site to DMOZ.org. If approved (and it can take weeks to months, with no guarantees of inclusion), other sites using ODP data will be linking to you.

For some reason, my big turn around in MSN came after I was accepted into DMOZ.

Anyway, I know I make the whole submission process look horrible, but it's relatively easy to do and might help you out in the future.
