Yep of refferrals by search engines. PPC mostly I'm sure. pk do you use PPC?
Also Does netscape have it's own search engine? How is that working out for them very low on my list so I never paid any attention to them. only two recorded hits today from the netscape one.

Yes I use PPC but that only accounts for about 1% or 2% of the 77% so roughy 75% is free traffic. I have a small budget setup on AdWords to use AdWords solely for keyword research.

Netscape is powered by Aol witch in turn is powered Google. I dont get any traffic from Netscape unless Webtrends associates it with Google traffic but I doubt it.

Yes but is that netscape engine part of the netscape browser? What I am getting at is just trying to get an indication of what microsoft may be planning. If they have an explorer engine that uses a superior algo then they could do very well. however, I worry that they may force you into using it. much like they do with windows messenger. annoying as hell.

Well, maybe MSN just doesn't like me... but here are my search engine referring stats for yesterday for the top 6:

Google: 12,448
Yahoo: 1,531
AOL: 167
MSN: 140
Ask Jeeves: 23
Alta Vista: 21

So I'm getting less than 1% from MSN for whatever reason.

I read an article about this (dont remeber where it is) supposedly MS is implementing the new SE into IE (more antitrust lawsuits I'm sure) and into the new OS. I believe it's called "Longhorn" and will be out in 2005. LH is supposed pull data from the search engine in the background and give the user a completely cusomizable environment. Weather, Stocks, News, Interests all in the OS. For example: you play an MP3 all the info about that atrist pops up, sets your background, band news, band tour dates, all from the new MSNSE. That should give people a reason to rank well on MSNSE. So if your worried about Netscape than LH should be right up your alley lol. Should be intersting.

Microsoft rip off Mac??!!!??! Never. *falls over laughing*

Yeah thats a neat utility. Supposedly the whole OS is geared by the MSNSE. You look for a file and it goes online and finds it without having to go "online" all done in background with you even knowing.

-PK

PS. Nice stats. What is your source of advertising??? PPC, SEO, both??

No PPC (or any paid advertising)... and a little SEO (traffic went up about 10% since I started SEOing some stuff).

I get a lot of traffic from MSN. Obviously not as much as Google, but it beats out Yahoo. I think it is good to get listed well in MSN, because it will be a big contender in the future. :-)

They will be a big competitor but everyone needs to remember that when MSN switchs over all the nice SERPs will be much much different. Nice traffic now doesn't mean nice traffic later. Especially in a smaller index and a different algo that you might not be in.

As of mid Jan Looksmart is not suppling results for MSN anymore. How do you rank in Inktomi ;)

I'll make plans for MSN when everything is ready.

Exactly! Inktomi will be it until MSN releases their own results.

Vrian SInth,
Remeber that how you currently rank with MSN will change in Mid Jan. Goto Hotbot.com and check your keywords because that how they will most likely look in Jan.

I get a significant portion of my traffic from AOL, a la Google.

Personally I get many times more traffic from MSN than Google. Although its not incredibly impressive stats, its good to know that dispite having a low PR, and terriable google rankings we are still able to get SE traffic from somewhere.

For a while there I was ranked #1 in the non paid listings for several big artists, such as "delta goodrem" and that drove several thousands hits my way, so MSN definently has some potential.

I agree. I don't pay for looksmart so that means I am neither in the sponsored nor directory listings. I am top 5 for most of my keywords in the Web Pages section, but a lot of good that does me if that puts me in the #32 position!
