MSN generates decent revenues and traffic on content page, msn search is far behind Google and Yahoo search.

I was reading an article in either business week or pcmag that stated msn search ahs about 20-25% of the search market. I don't know if they are more or less likely to buy stuff though.

Hi frankybme,
Yes, even in Norway where Google has a 90-95% marked share, MSN sends a respectable numbers visitors to optimised web sites.

MSN is a tiny fraction of search engine visitors we get (about 1%). Funny thing is the stuff we rank high for in MSN, are the things we aren't really relevant for, so I would imagine the actual conversion from MSN users is far less than Google.

Hey,
MSN has been crawling my site lately pretty deeply. I'd say it has crawled about 20,000+ and it's still going. Should I let it keep crawling? or is it just waisting my bandwidth ?

they may have 20-25% of users, but they sure don't give most sites 20-25% of visitors I get less than 2% of ref traffic from msn. google is over 90%

The traffic I get from MSN is insignificant. I get almost as much from Ask. Two losers.

msn growing...
For about last two months I've seen an increase in traffic from MSN. This has pretty much gone hand-in-hand with msnbot activity. The traffic is not that much (about 2-3 percentages of total), but every user is welcome to bring their money to me. LOL ;)

Remember what Microsoft did to Netscape when they got into the browser market? I would expect the same sort of tactics when it comes to search engines. Once they have their new engine up, things could get crazy. Especially when Longhorn comes out and it's probably integrated right into the OS.
Don't forget also, by default XP goes to the MSN home page. The "average" user probably never changes this, and at top it say's "Search:". "Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People in Large Groups." =) |

One of the best quotes in SEOChat for a very, very long time. And 100% true. First there was Hotbot, then Altavista, then Google. Next stop: msn? |

disgust, according to Nielsen, Netratings MSN = 29.6% and Google = 39.4%. The main issue I believe should be the subject here is the quality of the trafic from MSN. Most people using MSN aren't internet experienced yet and use the MSN search as it is their default search when they get their new computer with Windows as operating system. MSN's search traffic is mainly because of their HUGE market share. It makes sense what Digitalpoint said about 1%. As people get more internet informed Google becomes the better choice.

On most of our sites MSN accounts for 10-12% of referrals, slightly ahead of Yahoo.

My data is the same, but still way behind Google. I think MSN, once the new results are launched from their new SE and algo, will be a player againist Google. They, MSN, have to be and they know it. |
