MSN Search offically delayed until next year

It seems someone at MS relized Tech Preview #2 isn't so hot, and is now canning a bunch of there engineers!

2 years and 100 million bucks in ... seriously just write some spam filters and that thing'll rock! (-;

Shock, horror, Microsoft announce a launch date and then delay it at the last minute - who'd have thought

Oh well, lets hope when it does launch its as good as the preview suggests it will be.

The Tech Preview Results Index have migrated to their Beta Search Engine:

http://beta.search.msn.com/

Re Reading the press release, it seems this was always going to be the case and they were not going to roll out to the entire MSN network and their affiliates.

I was wondering about that, actually.... But will this be a live link? Where real people can search?

Well if it is, I have yet to see one on msn.com or search.msn.com :s

Taken from the article provided

Quote:

Google also said yesterday it had nearly doubled the number of Web pages culled by its search engine to 8 billion from 4.2 billion, immediately dashing Microsoft's claim yesterday that its index of 5 billion Web documents was the largest of any Web index in existence.

This is obviously why we have all seen a massive increase in googlebot activity over the last couple of weeks. Google flexing their muscles by increasing their index. All well and good but the SERPS haven't changed as a result.

Personally from a pure selfish point of view, my rankings on the MSN Beta for both my sites are different class. I think I'm going to have to buy a big shovel to get rid of that sand google has me in as it looks like there is going to be a long delay before MS go with their new engine.

This is on the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4000015.stm

looks like a possible full blown launch next month. I hope they dont touch their algo in the meantime though. As I love the results returned as they are at the moment

it's amazing how much press Microsoft got in the last day for simply changing the name of techpreview to msn search beta.....all of the articles implied that they were actually releasing the new index.....jeez!!!

That figures. I was so looking forward to today. I am #1 for nearly all of my key phrases in the tech preview. I guess I'll have to wait a little while longer.

They use the techpreview results on beta.search.msn.com now. At least they did something. But hey, why not swap "beta" and "regular" results MSN?

I am still hearing rumors of a possible December launch. Apparently there is still a push to roll it out at search.msn.com before the end of the year. It's hard to say which rumor is true but I am one hoping for a December launch.
