MSN find my site if in quotes?
My site is performing well in all major search engines except MSN... listings for my site do not appear in MSN... not even the name of my domain... unless of course I put it in quotes... then oddly enough it's ranking #1... any ideas why?
note: I've performed SEO on July 11th the quoted listing for my site in MSN was cached on Au 8? |

what would you like to know?
I updated my site in early July... optimizing it for search engines... it had been listed prior to optimization... though it ranked poorly... after the SEO, my site quickly jumped in ranking at Google which was followed by Yahoo... I've been waiting to see improvement at MSN... but I can only find my site when searching "in quotes" or site:mysite.com... any ideas? |

Have you made fun of MS(N) at any point? Are you one of their competitors? Did you upload the site using a cracked version of Frontpage Pro?
Maybe you should bite the bullet and post your question - and a link to the puzzling site in question - in the Site Reviews forum |

If you are in a very highly competitive market I will take a shot in the dark here and say not enough links. MSN places what I think is way to high of a value on the ammount of links. Quality means very little from what I can see.
Like I said before need alot more info to really give any relevant advice. And making fun of MSN wouldnt have a thing to do with it. |

In general I do not:
- poke fun at search engines bigger than me - use shadey submission services Come to think of it... I did not submit my site to MSN... Do you think that might have something to do with it? ... perhaps submitting it to MSN would help? Other web sites are linking to mine... maybe MSN picked up my site from one of them... could it be possible that as a linked site MSN will recognize it enough to list it quotes but since the site hasn't been submitted or completely entered into MSN's database... it's not fully listed??? |

Usally, MSN is the first to pick up a new site from the inbound links. Way faster than Yahoo and Google. So unless something 'special' happened, your case is weird indeed.
Submitting should not play a part in this. Could be a piece of your code that msnbot chokes on and the other bots do not. Could even be your robots.txt file But like this, it's just a guessing game..... |

Google was actually the first to pick up my site from inbound links... it only took one day... i must have uploaded the new site just as the spider was making its rounds.
I'll check over my code again and look for things that might have tripped up the MSN bot. I suppose you are right - this is a guessing game. Thanks for all the input. |

If you gave more info it really wouldnt be a guessing game. There are a lot of people here who know alot about SEO. Just hard to go on the info you gave. |

MSN is paying a lot of intention to in-page optimization; so if you concentrated only on link building and not also on in-page optimization this may be an explanation.
MSN is counting the number of links and not worries too much about quality or relevance; so if you found only a few quality, relevant links this may be another explanation. Or again check your robots.txt and code of the pages - maybe there is something there that prevents MSN bot to crawl and index the page properly.
