i paid for the service, and its worth the $49 for the directory inclusion, it givues you 10 links of your choice of url and anchor text, and they are on a pr4 page, im thrilled with it and helped me jump to #1 on many of my keywords.

Is submit-it.com owned by Microsoft? I see it as registered through TUCOWS. That seems strange to me...

Submit-it has been a part of bcentral, a microsoft venture for years now. They've recently added the new ms small biz directory as an offering, and it's a good thing becuase submit it didn't offer much really before that. I also see now that bcentral is pushing the microsoft label more and more, now calling this product "Microsoft's Submit It". In the end, it's not really microsoft, although it's likely wholley owned, and the money rolls up to ms in the end. If you order bcentral web hosting, as I have, they will push MS reliability when asked, but we all know that the servers they use don't have microsoft.com info on it. It is a strange relationship, but they all answer to ms, so getting into the small business directory is a legite offering.

$49 is a bargain for some sites that need all the PR backlinks they can get. If your site is in a less competitive keyword arena, it's probably not imperative.
