MSN Backlinks Question

Just how much value does MSN place on backlinks? If a website has lots of backlinks (meaning in the thousands) and is search engine optimized very well for MSN, does this mean that the site has a better chance for high rankings on optimized keywords/phrases? Or, does the number of backlinks not really matter with MSN? I am a bit confused about this.

Thanks for any help here.

For MSN I m very much convinced that Back links is major factor which effects SERP result in MSN. More Backlinks Better SERP in MSN.

Like the other 2 major engines, links matter a lot with MSN.

Keep in mind though its not about getting thousands of links - its about getting quality links.

Also, pay close attention to the location of your keywords on your pages with MSN

I've found MSN counts more and lower quality links, also. At least that's the way it seems to me. It seems anytime you match the title, KWs, and anchor text and just have a lot of links with matching anchor text- it's 1st page MSN. Depending on how competitive. I am mostly working with sites with a few hundred thousand to 5-7 million results.

Content driven

Relative - I mean relative - to Google, MSN is more on page focused on content. Relative to Yahoo, MSN is more focused on off page.

when it comes to ranking high in msn, more links the merrier. however this may hurt your rankings in google. for example. if you post on message board and have your url in your signature, msn will index all those post links which will increase your link pop however google sees this as duplicate content and could actually hurt you because it could be seen as spam.

I would like you to proof this to me. I have never seen a forum signature being penalised, or cause a penalty. Not to mention dupe content being the reason.

I think backlinks does matter. We have just launched http://www.topseodirectory.com and have about 2k backlinks on msn already. i think it's also easier to get backlink on msn then other major search engine.

Sorry that's misinformation...

"links to you cannot harm you"...

The fact that "numerous links" from a message board are repetitive anchors, from same domain is not duplicated content...

They may NOT HELP any - but they certainly will hurt you neither.

MSN considers backlinks as a main criteria for giving PR. Use proper keywords while optimising your site. This helps in getting backlinks to your site.
