MSN AdSense!!!

I just read that Microsoft are entering the AdSense market. Could be quite interesting:

"Microsoft hopes its new advertising system will match many of the features of Google's system, which is generally seen as more advanced than Yahoo's, and add a few innovations. The most significant advancement in the MSN technology is its ability to direct ads to viewers according to demographic characteristics, as well as by the day and time the ad is shown."

FYI I read the article here: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/26/business/media/26soft.html

EGOL agrees: Thanks for the link. It's about time that these other SEs start getting into this in a proper way.

I like the idea of more competition in the market. I don't know that I will use the others (well I guess if the words I want are cheaper I probably will) but I really hope that MSN's features will prompt G to come out with similar features (especially the time of day one... the people that buy our product aren't exactly night owls usually..)

This sounds great to me. Our research indicates that MSN has a higher click to conversion ratio than Google (but Google carries more traffic). From this point of view advertisement on MSN may make better economic sense.

Certainly each person/business will have to do their own analysis of their traffic etc. to see which SE's they should purchase ads through. You should do that whether there is one or 100 different places offering PPC.

Definitely! More competition = more sets of ads to put on any given page.... definitely opens the door for some exploitation... if you are into that...

it seem that msn is trying to get very competivie but it will be very expensive beacuse so far the best pay-per-click website is oveture, i think is more complete than google´s adwords, i dont see this with alot of future considering that msn is the SE that gives less traffic (compare to yahoo and google).

If msn needs to do is invest on the ranking algo and try to clean his rankinngs from spam, thats whats he needs to do.

Well I don't agree with you on the overture bit... but the part I was going to mention was that it doesn't really matter how much traffic a SE drives you when they are running a PPC model advertising system. That's the whole point of Paying Per Click... they don't drive you traffic, you don't pay. The reason we might not use them is because our MSN traffic seems to convert less often than our Google or Y traffic (this is only for our company currently... this is not a statement of general trends among the SE traffic). Of course using ads rather than relying on our rankings could change that. In in the end though it all comes down to ROI.
