Lost ALL MSN traffic 2 weeks ago!

Hi guys, I have www.powerseeker.co.uk which has been operational for 7 yrs. Just 2 weeks ago all my hits from MSN completely disappeared! - Any ideas? Nothing changed since then EXCEPT i have removed the link between it and a motorbike insurance subdomain....

Thanks
Ade

About that time, MSN shifted to a new SE algorithm. How did your position on the SERPs change?

Thats likely it.

I can't see that removing a link would cause you problems.

No I removed the link to the subdomain after the traffic stopped - i also have a sister site www.powerseeker.org.uk which is doing fine in MSN but not Google and uses pretty much the same techniques for SEO....

strange..

very annoying tho...

Forget about MSN. It will not attract any traffic to you.

MSN have around 12% traffic. I guess it would grow, once Vista becomes popular. Dont ignore MSN altogether, IMO.

great feedback!! NOT

The site has not changed at all and has always had gr8 results using MSN, not 1 result even coming back for the term powerseeker car insurance regarding powerseeker.co.uk

Will happily pay someone to fix if they know the problem...

This happened to one of my sites as well... no idea why.

Edit: Shortly after the drop, MSN Bot traffic slowed big time.

Round about the 1 June, my MSN traffic dried up. I have not been able to figure why. I found this thread looking for answers. It went from 12,000 uniques per month to just under 2,000 as of today. Most of the sites in the MSN search results currently for the keyword I go for, are ADSENSE SPAM sites.

I had the exact same problem. June is already a slower month. Adding the total loss of MSN traffic has been painful. I hate MSN. There's always some weirdness going on with them. I ran my SEO software and found that I needed several changes for MSN. Now I'm waiting to see if it works. I had several thousand pages indexed and all with first page rankings. Now, my rankings are all so deep I can't find them.

I've been trying to find some insider intell. on this. If I get lucky, I'll post.

...and what software would that be if you don't mind telling.

I've always ranked in msn by accident. Yahoo's my b*tch.

changes in msn

This is not because of some server or link problem. Msn has made some changes in its algo and lots of sites have lost their rankings. You just need to try to understand what they have changed.

Start looking at the pages that you have limited contextual information on... like: www.powerseeker.co.uk/car-insurance-elephant.html

If you go through page by page you will likely find that search engines are dumping these.

The bulk of your website pages have like 1 paragraph of content and the rest is navigation links and ads... and lots of external links [your top nav links]

BTW it matters not that you didn't change anything - MSN did [and so did Google] and would think Yahoo will soon... start spending money on content creation before you are competely gone.

poor me

i think cause my site is relatively new, msn is the only search i do ok for,, well ok ish... my site is about 2.5 months old.
i've been coming round about 13 for msn... then three days ago i jumped to 7... hurrah!!!
and my links have been growing... am working very hard!!
and link popularity checker tool from seo chat.. showed me with about 550 msn links..
then yesterday i went to 11, and now today back to 13... all understandable... i guess... but what is interesting is the link popularity tool now shows me with 420 links....
