Since you asked this in the MSN forum, I'll just come out and say no...not to show in MSN -- it wasn't too bad of a deal 2 years ago, but is far from necessary now -- if you are going to stick with paid-inclusion or CPC and want MSN exposure, look into Overture (Yahoo Marketing Services).

I use overture and I am ranked #1 on msn for my search terms
does looksmart do nothing at all now? Thanks

Looksmart works well for your ranking on meta search engines like clusty.com or vivisimo.com (which are owned by looksmart BTW). But while these SEs are quite nice if you're searching for something you can't find on Google or MSN, they're not really popular (yet).
