Long Update or Multiple Algo Search??
Has MSN been going thru a google style update the past THREE WEEKS ..... or have they implemented a multiple algo search ..... if so, it looks like 4 versions of their algo are randomly applied to searches so serps look like they are constantly changing on a DAY TO DAY basis??
I have serps bouncing from #2 to #8 to #26 to #15 to #2 .... etc .... over and over the past three weeks.

That's odd -- mine have been pretty stable over the last 3-4 days. (Compared with G, anyway).

Same Here
I have noticed the same nonsense over the past couple of weeks. My pages have been bouncing around more than a squirrel in rush hour traffic. They have been definitely doing something over at MSN.

I'm seeing nothing whatsoever. My rankings are rock steady. To be honest, they're steadier than they have been for a little while - maybe that should worry me?

I've noticed some huge fluctuations in rankings over the last week for several of my targeted keywords.
Right now, it seems like all the black hat sites are in the top spots for my keyword phrase but that hasn't been the case in the last few months. Anyway, I'm curious to know where I stand in a few weeks with my MSN rankings... |

I keep seeing split results on multiple data centers. Especially the ones that were recently mentioned by MattCutts. It seems that gooel mayb is doing some experimenting to see which algo changes are working. I have a feeling that jager 3 will be a compilation of the last 2 updates across all data centers.

IMO MSN churns the SERPs and has been doing so for a long time - at least the high volume SERPs that I follow.

That is interesting, does what you see look more like driving down a highway cluttered with websites or more like driving around the block over and over? I guess i've never really paid much close attention to MSN ... cause i just noticed this during octoberc .... what i am seeing looks more like a definite pattern to the churning ... maybe at least 4 distinct algo's .... maybe more .... but definitely there are serp sequences that look nearly identical and which seem to repeat every few days to a week .... the timing of the repetitions seems to be more random but the sequences themselves seems to have a repetitive pattern. If that is what they are doing it might be the neatest development in search to happen in a while that i have seen. With multiple algo's MORE different sites get to enjoy the top serps over a weeks time ... it is sort of "spreading the wealth" around ..... much more of a democratic approach than google i would say ..... in fact i have recommended randoml;y rotating the top 20 mysaelf before as a device to reduce the pressure to push the envelope and just be happy your in the top 20 ...... so maybe that will be POPULAR with webmasters .... and help MSN get more popular ....everyone likes to be in the top 10 - right? Also, from a users point of view ... as long as the results are relevant it dont matter to them who is #1 and who is #10 .... |

I have one site that runs between 2,000 and 10,000 visitors per day from MSN. Most of this coming through about 30 battle pages gunning for terms that get a nice amount of traffic. At almost any given time two to five of those pages will be at #1 or #2 for those terms and the others will rank between #10 and #30. They seem to take turns jumping up to high traffic then falling down. The volatile nature of this bothers me but at the same time I enjoy the traffic - and this has been going on since early summer. When I check my logs I am always wondering which pages are at TopSERPs today?
This site has nothing but natural links and almost all of them hit the homepage or a blog that is in a folder. |

Strange!!!
This morning I was nr8 for a keyword, now I'm gone! And so are most of my competitors. The SERPS are completely different from before. They resemble the Google SERPS now! |
