Is Google Adsense killing my MSN ratings?
I have been rapidly trying to change my site so that MSN starts sending me visitors again. One thing I haven't removed is Google Adsense. Has anybody noticed if having Google Adsense hurts your MSN rankings? It would seem logical to me that MSN would not want to send people to a web-page with google adsense on it as it makes Google more money. Any thoughts on this?
Chris. Relevant Stats on my site... google sends me 1,600 people/day, MSN now sends me 20 people/day. |

Out of my sites that do have AdSense my rankings are comparable to what they are in Google. I find that MSN sends a small amount of traffic regardless. They just don't have anywhere close to the market share as Google.
If the ads are making you money then there is no way I would remove them. If they aren't why not remove them as an experiment. I'm willing to bet you see no difference. |

There would be little logic to MSN penalizing pages that contain AdSense. Look elsewhere.

These things happen on M as they continue to tweak their algo and filters. We have been hit 3 times already. For 1 month or so #1 then page 3.

No, AdSense doesn't hurt MSN's ego - I have a site which did fairly well in msn beta but when it moved out of beta, my site disapeared - I was amazed! It didn't show again for a few weeks (can't remember how long) but then came back with a bang and had since occupied the #1 slot (with occasional slips to #2 or #3). The site in question has adsense. Just had a site jump me into top 5 on a comp. term.
They have AdSense in H1 tags at the top of page. Odd. |

Adsense is compatible
I have a site thats littered with adsense ads on MSN's first page.
H1 tags on adsense ads? Wouldn't they recognize they're own ads? Don't know about that. Adsense is javascript. h1 tags usually change the size of the font and table cell. I'd think the h1 tags would be dismissed. ...if they counted their own ads as content keywords they would be stroking themselves, google(master)bation. ...sorry lost my sense of class there for a moment. |
