Inbound links for a website.....

Is it true that the only thing that matters in an inbound link for a website is the anchor text?

This is not the same thing as U said.
But generally most people use their keywords in anchor text,
thats why anchor text helps in boosting the keywords.

Is it the only thing? Given that you have foud a place for a link that's a good place then anchor text is very important.

May want to consider that your link is no 'nofollow'
that your link open in a new page perhaps target'_blank'

Factors influencing inbound links

construction

The answer is no. You have heard that not all links are the same? Well here is my 2 cents.
  • Contextual links are more valuable because of the text around it.
  • Location of the link on the page
  • The 'importance' of the page the link is from
  • The PR of the page the link is from
  • The depth of the inbound link in your website
  • The target page of the inbound link and the theme of that page in conjunction with the link text and the text surounding the link

There are other factors as well for example whether or not it reciprocal, sitewide etc. but I don't think that is what your question intended.

My computer burped when I was commenting above. The comment I intended:

For Google the words are "content relevance" and "trust value" of the linking site. Those two are the primary factors driving the value of the backlink. For MSN and Yahoo the points by Chatmaster are spot on.

I will just throw this out there.
I did a backlink search for a #1,2,3 site on Msn for a very hard key phrase 8 mil results.
I checked there 1000+ backlinks and the key phrase is not listed one time.
It makes you think?
They are not listed on yahoo and google first 10 pages.
If MSN is using this formula that would explain some of the bad results.
