How to Get Penalized at MSN?

Can anyone tell me how a website can get penalized at MSN? It looks like one of my sites has been, and I am clueless as to why.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Could be your linking strategy, content. As above, it's almost impossible to tell without knowing more. How long has the site appeared to be penalized? MSN often shuffles things around.

Msn

For months I was getting lots of hits for keywords/phrases that were generally in the top 10. Then nothing. The site is gone. However, I am still getting lots of hits from Google and Yahoo, particulaly Yahoo. The site is still indexed at MSN, but I cannot find the site in the results when I key in certain keywords. At least, not in the first 200 results or so.
I hope that this helps. Thanks.

With Google having 70% + of the search business, you are making very little on Yahoo & MSN than what you could make on Google.

You get little to no traffic from Google only because your Google SERPs are terrible. Focus on Google and you will even improve in the Yahoo & MSN SERP results.

A businessman does not ignore their largest market potential just because it is difficult to compete in that niche. Go after Google. You will be much happier (maybe even richer) in the long run.

no, i'm not discounting google. I should have reworded my earlier post. I just focus less on their constant fluctuations and look at the big long term picture. When google is up I receive tons of traffic from them, but when it's down fopr me I don't take as large a hit as some because i've still got great traffic from yahoo and msn. Optimizing properly for msn and yahoo is different than google. Yahoo for example like far more links, and is not picky at all about where they come from (not so for google)

MSN seems to have changed its algo about 3-4 weeks ago. As far as I can see, the sites with the keyword in the domain-name get top billing now.

MSN has been changing their algo, probably you are affected by that. They have come down on MFA sites, and sites with duplicate content. Does your site belong to that category? You can expect a better reply, if you post the URL.

NO they don't best estimates only have Google 1-3 points higher than Yahoo. Stop spreading that BS propaganda about a Google runaway with search users.

You really cannot discuss the search industry without some mention of Google. It would be like discussing operating systems without mentioning Microsoft or browsers with no IE discussion.

Secondly, the latest search industry data shows: "The latest Hitwise stats show that Google has broken the 60% mark in search engine market share. Hitwise data has Google at 60.2%, Yahoo at 22.5% and MSN at 11.8%." (See the whole article: http://blogs.zdnet.com/web2explorer/index.php?p=251). If you were to include searches by AOL and others using the Google engine, you would be in the 70% + land. To access the Hitwise data: http://weblogs.hitwise.com/bill-tancer/2006/08/us_july_search_volume_numbers.html.

Next time please make sure your data is correct before you try to discount the words of others.

Msn

Thanks for all of the responses. Over the past two weeks, I have constantly jumped back and forth from the first page to some "unknown zone" with MSN. Regarding duplicate content, this very well might have been an issue. Therefore, I have completely removed another site from my server that I no longer choose to work on and that did contain "strings of words" that were also on the site that keeps jumping around. Thanks again for the comments.
