How Often Does MSN Spider?

I'm noticing a weird anomoly in MSN in regards tomy site. I think this will be corrected when they respider the site- this happened once before. How often do they tend to revisit sites with their bots?

Yeah, I was on the 1st page in the number 3 spot. Then suddenly dropped to the 4th and 5th page and the MSNbot has for some reason not returned to spider my site in 5 days now. Not sure why.

This same thing happened a couple of months ago. After a week away the MSNbot spidered the site again and I popped back onto the first page. Weird. Any ideas?

It can be pretty strange Darren, but I think it has to do with MSN still trying to figure itself out. My take on this (had it happen to a site of mine) is that they have all sorts of relevancy stats and try to correlate those stats with spidering activity, where certain URLs rank for certain phrases, etc [at least, I would if I were running a SE].

If your site was like mine, it'll toil for a few weeks on the lower pages and then jump back to page 1 for a few weeks...good luck on the next jump. Get some more links (Digitalpoint and Link Vault seem to work great in MSN).

MSN is by far the biggest indexer of my site. It is in there everday and an hour wont go by that it doesn't come into the site and index something. I have 13000 pages indexed on MSN it was 4000 3 weeks ago

MSN's bot is there each and everyday. Unfortunately, MSNs conversions for me are negligible. It seems people use MSN for the first stage of shopping, and Google for the final, same page, same search result, Google delivers more than Yahoo and MSN...

No, I don't think so - I have sites in #1 positions for all targetted keywords which get spidered once per week. I have other sites which don't do so well which get spidered more often.

I think we can safely say that #1 position alone doesn't have a lot to do with spidering activity.

There are other elements to consider (wouldn't it be nice if there weren't, and all was as simple as you say?)

That's interesting - what you're describing would relate to Google and Yahoo on my sites (and I have a LOT less pages to index than you claim).

No, msnbot doesn't visit me too often, but I stay in the top spot anyway, so who am I to complain - why make the poor bot work harder than it need?

It probably has something to do with the amount of pages the poor thing has to wade through over at your place, I imagine it doesn't get through all of them each day?

I bet the young bot is so happy when it reaches my place and has time for a casual coffee break!
