Getting Indexed

I'm having troubles getting my sites indexed in MSN. What tips would you provide to make sure that MSN indexes me? Note that I don't have a problem with Google or Yahoo...just MSN

I've tried blog and ping, links from higher PR sites, etc. One site that I have has ~500 pages and a grand total of eleven are indexed by msn...that site has over 40,000 backlinks.

Other sites only have a couple of backlinks but I've done the usual blog and ping, submit to msn, etc. works for yahoo and google. Doesn't seem to work for msn.

Most of these sites are not of the variety I'd want to link from my forum sig It's all a grand experiment anyway but I don't wanna jeopardize the income when I can't place lots of time on real SEO work cuz of the cancer treatment and all

G-Man, one thing that I did only a couple days ago that did the trick: my site has an RSS feed, I fed it to My MSN (get yourself their account in case you don't have one), within hours MSNbot nicely crawled all my pages and now I see a good part of them freshly indexed by MSN. Maybe it's just me being lucky but why not try and see for yourself? You won't lose anything anyway.

The way they display your feed is ****ty, they don't update it even when you hit Refresh, but who cares if the purpose is to attract MSNbot and it works ;-)

I can't get it to recognize half my blogs and the stupid add pages goes south of the border 75% of the time when trying to add it. Even adding my url to my blogspot.com/atom.xml doesn't work most of the time. They've got serious problems!

Never mind the border, their whole page is screwed up and all their JavaScript menus don't work in my browser at all, if it's a blog and you can't get it to add your feed from that blog just add the blog URL, that'll do the job. I've added my site RSS and my blog, it went fine for the site RSS but MSN didn't know anything about my blog RSS (seems like that's the case for the blogs it hasn't indexed) - so I just added the blog URL, which had pretty much the same effect. Also, at first it might display your feed the oldest items first, and won't update it, but after a couple days it improved and now it shows my updates almost as they happen. Remember that the key is not to get it to look properly but to get MSNbot to your site - and as long as the feed is added that is gonna happen. Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.

An update: might be a pure coincidense but after MSN, I had my whole site crawled by Teoma/Ask Jeeves! Never seen their spider in my logs before, and I believe they are not connected to MSN in any way... Haven't checked yet whether it led to indexing/ranking update by Ask Jeeves.

Gman is away in hospital at the moment (thats a good thing even though it sounds bad) so i have bookmarked this and will send him it when he gets back.

I would be nice if people could post as much as possible info here about msn optimization for when he gets back.

Which site is he trying to get indexed? I'll throw some deep links up for ya. Get better soon G-man!

I've had good luck getting smaller sites indexed very fast by MSN just by having a few pr4+ links.
