This is a very interesting point, and i heartily agree. Trying to play TOO smart, always results in the opposite result.

Just wanted to add that the MSN spam report looks like a really good thing, but as usual, it is going to be heavily misused.
Several desperate webmasters will start to create programs to misuse this feature really badly. I hope msn will be ready to handle this!

I do not spam, and check out some of my results

Keyword: avena lee
Keyword: flick shagwell
Keyword: jade hsu

I'm #1 for all three, and I have to say these three sites are EXTREMELY relivant to the keyword.

Hmmm...well for our market, MSN results are absolute crap. You can smell it from hear. The top one is a guy who owns about a dozen sites all interlinked, with doorway pages and every other trick in the book.

With due respect, wtf u on bout? Google works by Back Links (PR) mostly. MSN have not got page rank therefore what you just said is not true. You can make a non-SEO site with no links to or from appear 1st on MSN. (Unlikely of course but not impossible)

What you are saying is true with Google. Google takes PR as priority. MSN strictly uses content and is not bothered about how many sites link to that site. Which is somewhat more logical, why give a site with hundreds of links linking to it priority then a site that has more relevant content? The backlinks is a good idea as if its been highly linked upto its popular, but with the around 100 PhDs keep changing the way Google works out PR its pointless, you have an average PR of 7 for instance, they change it, you have a average PR of 4 or 5 now. OK, you are not down to one, but one PR down can make a huge difference to where you end up on the result pages. But say your content stay constant i.e. is updated but is still of same relevance and some same content i.e. articles etc., You could be several pages down now, and your content is no less relevant then before.

Quote:

This is ugly for us. We aren't even in the new search results at all. We have been ranked either 2 or 3 for the last couple of months for our main phrase.

Google took several months to index my site and further to recognise PR and im not listed in dmoz at all (even though i have submitted a few times).
How long has this new MSN search preview been out? Give it time....half my sites not listed yet, but the others are.

What i heard, Microsoft are not using the MSN Search index and making a completely new one, so just because you are listed with MSN Search doesnt mean you are listed with the new one. With so many sites out there its not an easy task to index them all.

Dan

p.s. tbh, no need to laugh at this, what makes Google cr*p is that its too powerful.

1. what search term?

2. Why dont you report all of them?

3. MSN dont worry about how many linking to a site, its prob. because its full of keywords, also, not all 'Doorway' sites are SPAM.

4.

Who you saying nice try to? By the sound of it:
1. new MSN may not hav indexed your new site (if it dont appear)
2. No need to get jealous because people are reporting positions 1 and 2, for most search terms they try
3. You trying an search phrase which shows 100,000+ results? Perhaps, a phrase which is not in part of whole on your site?
4. New MSN Search is still in testing stages and Google who i think you are trying to refer to who sends you more traffic has
been out for years. And the MSN you refering to is the old one i take it which is completely different. If you are talking about
the new MSN im not surprised not many people know about it.
5. Your website is not properly SEO'd?

Dan

p.s. You might as well start liking the new MSN Search, Microsoft is likely to add it to new versions of Windows.

O come on Mr google of course I reported my honest opinion to msn.
So all I need do is buy one hundred domains chuck up keyword loaded text and bingo , all my doorway SPAM domains dominate the first 100 listings in msn for my target keyphrase .
Nice try msn
Who said my site is new?
Me, jealous??? For your information my site is number two in the search results I mentioned in my last post, so please don't assume anything I may post in the future.
My site is not properly seo'd??? I have been seoing sodding sites for last five years , your reply I find offensive from a poster who has been in these forum less than 2 minutes, please read posts correctly before opening your mouth.

Much like everyone else, I am very high for all of my keywords. However, for the amount of time I saw the msn bot spend on my forum last month, there should be WAY more pages indexed. It was on my site almost everyday for a least a few hours at a time spidering from at least 5-6 different IPs. It only seemed to spider a few profiles, no topics. It got the whole main site though.

Of course, it's probably just learning at this point, and forums are definately a tricky thing to spider (I only have a session mod on a phpBB, no mod rewrites).

This should be interesting.

Its 2 weeks later and we still aren't in the new directory. (we did email them) This is not unusual w/msn. Last year when we changed web hosts we were missing for months. We kept emailing msn. got some rediculous standard responses. All of a suddent from out of nowhere we appeared in the listing and shot to #2 now # 3 for our main search word phrase. The darn thing is their traffic amounts to very little.

My suspicion is that when they launch this they will market it like crazy and slowly take market share from google and yahoo. Its astonishing to see how much market share Explorer has. They should change the boardgame name of Monopoly to Microsoft. Its a better example of the meaning of the word.
