Attention Slimy Web Masters

I use to be no 1 for my main keyword in msn. in the new site down to #10. The thing is though 8 out of the 9 above me are Doorways and directories of directories of total nonsence and then more doorways to directories... In other words MSN is really out to reward every unethical site there is...

A new meaning to the word Relevance!

Search for "home loans" and you get a load of .co.uk sites. I am sure all US home owners are dying to know what kind of a loan they could get had they been living in the UK.

I'm pretty jazzed - getting #1 or close to rankings for most of my keywords. Any scope when it is going into production?

i really like that little rainbow bar to report spammy results. I wonder how many people they will need to staff that - or if it will be ignored.. but since they are putting it out front they must be serious about getting rid of sites that irritate off the public.

lol... everybody will be reporting their competitors.

I must say I like the new search, can't see anyone beeting Yahoo! on spam results though. These SE's should actually share info on spammers with each other and get the noose around the necks of these spammers.

I doubt that we will see this happen. Whoever successfully gets read of the spammers will have good clean SERPs and that will be a huge advantage for drawing searchers.

I do give some hope for MSN's approach to receive complaints about search results. I am gonna report all of the spammers in my SERPs.

What a load of rubbish from MSN

For the keywords I tried their pittifully small results they returned were full of multiple listings/spam from the same domain and their relevancy was WAY to poor to to even compete with some of the smaller meta search engines.

Fair enough they are only in a testing stage but still I expected much better from a huge organisation like MSN

About the only possitive thing I could say about them is that they are much quicker that they used to be.

Well... a search engines robot (with full respect) is dumb, considering being compared to an human.

I think MSN is going the right away about it.

Its so easy with dynamic pages to detect the User Agent string and output a completely different site, and the search engine is blind to this.

Google finds a match of a common SPAM site or what it finds as a SPAM site and ban it, this could actually be an innocent site, the GoogleBot doesnt know that though. Then the company is missing out on sales due to it being banned in the most popular search engine. Also, webmasters are generally cheating to get over other spam cheating sites that get high in the results.

Also, as a huge bias to where you come in result pages i.e PageRank, Google keep changing their algo, this results in what i hear a while back that some websites fell from PR6 to PR2 and others down to PR0.

It wont be easy, but MSN's idea i think it will be the best way to stop these SPAM sites.

MSN is more relevant then Google (well, what i searched for was), Un-SEO sites can make number 1 spot. Google no chance (unless you typed the domain name without www and the extensions and not one else have a simular domain name).

Everyones listed with Google means you are unlikely to get good ranking with general non-specific keywords without having a high PR, which most people go and buy a good PR, then gets banned, hmmm, ....

MSN a lot less hassle .

raz do u live in the UK? If so your location prob. is detected to bring you localised more relevant sites i.e. the .co.uk .
The last thing you want if you are in the UK, is to search web and get US sites.

Dan
p.s. I love new MSN Search Engine - i just hope MSN dont mess it up!

Good comments. I completely agree with you. I did a ton of tests, and although there is some definate and clear work that needs to be done, I did find MSN to be much more relivant in *most* cases. I especially liked that it was return extremely relivant results for sites that clearly had never had an SEO wizard touch them.

I'd love to see a 33 / 33 / 33 traffic split between the big three. As i'm tired of Google dominance. Despite is being the evil Microsoft empire ... grr I hope they can provide some real compitition and NOT create a monopoly like they've done elsewhere.

Mike

Egol, I know you are right and what you are saying is making allot of sense, but if SE's really wants to play the game tuff on these guys I hope they will considder this step. It will truely make it difficult for these spammers to climb the SERPS and make the playing field much nicer!

This is ugly for us. We aren't even in the new search results at all. We have been ranked either 2 or 3 for the last couple of months for our main phrase.

Got to look into this. I think with all their money and success in other areas they will slowly build lots of traffic.

Dave

The results looked good so far although as has been pointed out a little work to do yet.

Of course the really stupid thing about current google results is all the algo changes and filters really do hit many, many genuine and relevant small to medium sites very hard. This in turn encourages many people who would never spam to do so or use black hat techniques - after all what have they got to lose? Google really are causing themselves problems at the moment.
