10 top 10 rankings for several keyphrases

Hi everyone,

Iam very happy with MSN and it's results but yet i feel a bit dissapointed. On at least 10 relative keyphrases (2 or 3 words) iam listed in the top10 results on the first page. According overture these terms are being used. Some 2 word phrases have : 32189 searches for example. I checked my results on different machines (ip's) and everywhere i have the same results, iam even listed in most country codes such as msn.countrycode. But iam only getting about 10 visitors from MSN a day. Do you guys have any idea what the problem might be.

Btw does MSN care about backlink ammount and quality?

Well I do have some stats for you to compare,

MSN hits 44 (4 days of feb)
#1 kwphrase (2 wds): overture says 9905/month (ie 1200/4days), I got 19 from msn in 4days. SERP pos #6 for this phrase.
#2 kwphrase(2wds): overture says 1609/month (ie 200/4days), I got 4 from msn in 4 days. SERP pos #1 for this phrase.
#3 kwphrase(2wds): overture says 2096/month (ie 280/4days), I got 3 from msn in 4 days. SERP pos #1 for this phrase.
#4 kwphrase(3wds): overture says 249/month (ie 32/4days), I got 3 from msn in 4 days. SERP pos #1 for this phrase.

I hope this helps

MSN will be a tough sell to computer professionals because Microsoft is generally toted as the Dark Side.

However, I am a computer professional, and I just made the switch from having www.google.com on my startup page, to search.msn.com. Give it time.. MSN will pick up steam very quickly. Their results are much more relevant when searching, and people will eventually figure this out. All it's going to take is a good article to be posted on www.slashdot.org about the relevancy of Google vs MSN's search results, and people will start to take notice. I'm actually preparing a document as we speak, but it will take some time to properly do.

Thanks everyone for all your answers. I figured that msn has a lot of young visitors (caused by the MSN chattool) and is used mainly for entertainment purposes, ofcoarse this is just what i assume, but it could make sence.

I have a few page one rankings for Google as well, but unfortunatelly iam still in the Sandbox over there. In Yahoo/Altavista iam nowhere to be found.

Overture search frequencies are at best somewhat overstated. One keyphrase that Overture suggests gets searched for 2,000 time a month results in 0 traffic, despite one of our sites being 1 on Google, MSN & Yahoo.

Plus MSN will be starting a huge advertising campaign today, so over the next few weeks/months, there may be a big increase in hits from them.

dazzlinedonna > Do you perhaps have more information about the MSN marketing campaign? I know Microsoft has the budget and usually has the marketingmachine to announce theire new products, but iam curious how they're going to start this and what the plans are in a nuttshell. Iam not asking for theire whole plan ofcoarse but just what they're about to do. Tv / Radio / Magazines / Internet etc etc.

I predict MSN taking 30% of the search engine traffic by 2006.

Microsoft can do one thing right, Marketing. But this time, Microsoft has built an amazing search engine. So now they have Marketing + Product, something they didn't have with Windows 98 or IE, and look what they did there

I know that's a very bold statement, that Microsoft will take 30% by 2006, but unless Google does something to improve its search results and make some radical movements, search.msn.com is going to be the future. If not by 2006, definately when Microsoft releases Longhorn.

I'd love to see the take 30% of G's traffic! Being on the first page at MSN, that would really increase my traffic!

i saw an ad for MSN as well last night here on the west coast. Only if they can grab 20 -30% more of the search traffic, most would be a lot happier here with the results some are getting on MSN.
