A Closer Look....

Many of you already know David Mihm and his column today over at SELand, is SPOT-ON for LOCAL searches...

Go here to find same....

Especially note his line "...It remains critical to think about Local as its own entity within a broader SEO framework...!!!

Then add that opinion to Andrew Shotlands column of yesterday here on IYP SEO ranking summarys...and you've got a new but terrific "blueprint" of LOCAL search citations....

Hmm...you just gotta ponder all that!

:-)

Just barely skimmed those articles (I'll have to go back for a closer look) but what really stood out for me was that on-page optimization ranked LAST as an important factor for local search. I know on-page optimization really isn't as important as getting links, but still...!

Many members here can testify to this...

I put up a blank blog with absolutely nothing (no titles, no body content, no keywords anywhere and ranked it #1 for a dozen SEO specific phrases in local search in a mere hour.

On-page optimization is a different beast... "you can't get a sunburn by the light of the moon."

ahh...but fathom, the light of the moon is so much more constant than the Persieds except for a few days in August....er....what Imean is, those dozen terms, were they in like a very very narrow channel? ie I take it 'web hosting' and 'cheap prescriptions' weren't in that kw mix....

and isn't that the way of G...that for SOME kw, almost anything goes...and for others depending upon the competition, NOTHING works...so yes, the on-page IMHO only sometimes works...and sometimes doesn't....ymmv!!

Ahhh....serendipity rules!!!

My original post to begin this thread asked readers to go to read both Andrew's and David's blogs....and compare their thoughts on LOCAL.

Funny thing happened here in that Andrew was driving David somewhere in San Jose right after a session down at the SES conference and he got a flat tire...and what happend is SO SO SO funny - er - not-so-funny maybe. Read Andrew's take on that flat and the Tate garage....

Serendipity rules!

Personally I find their action equally unprofessional.

Devil's advocate... what services did anyone receive and pay for that allows some to quote "Worst service ever"?

Isn't that a fraudulent claim? The fact that the guy serviced his own vehicle on private property "for free" refutes this testament.

Incredibly Rude Service... the place was closed; how exactly did you get any rude services from an unopened estabishment?

Rude to my friend! ... noting previous unsupported claims... the reverse of this posted testament -- would be the guy calling police and saying there is a strange vehicle loitering in the driveway.

I thought it was funny as hell, reminded me of the old days when we'd play forum posts to rank for sport. Not commenting on the ethics & there wasn't anything posted on business reviews, just found it funny... but then again, I'm not the Tate Family Complete Auto Care in San Jose. (smiley here)

I guess the post by Andrew could be looked at in many ways....for me, it was def funny! And I understand that his "review" of how he was treated is now ABOVE the Tate serp..ie more people will find this review than the website itself....which IMHO, is EXACTLY what such a review should do.....
