How do-able would it be for me to get to the first page for my local business?
I have been working on my chiropractic clinic website for a for couple months and so far I come up on page 1 for the keyword "san diego pinch nerve/treatment". But for other keywords like "chiropractor San Diego" I am found on page 17 sometimes.
I would love to get to the first page but I really do not know how realistic that will be nor what resources to use. I can write all my own content/ articles, but I am not sure what else I need to do. I understand most of the basics I think. Any advise would be appreciated.. Would I need to hire a seo pro? Hey, if they could get me on page 1 I might consider it.

Many of your sub pages are targeting crappy terms like 'Personal Injury and Car Accidents San Diego California' or 'California workers compensation' you should be targeting your industries keywords. Personal Injury and Car Accidents San Diego California
Personal Injury and Car Accidents San Diego California would work for an insurance or attorney in SD.
California workers compensation would work for the state of California for their compensation program.
People looking for your services wouldn't be searching those terms.
BTW those were page titles. The one on your home page is way too big.
I hate to mention this but your not on page 1 for 'san diego pinch nerve/treatment' I believe your seeing personal results.
try searching that term in pagewash which will give you a clean search.
however you are in position 1 for:
pinched nerve, san diego chiropractor, mission valley chiropractor, low back pain, neck pain, herniated disk, neck pain, headaches. x-rays

...well, now I am on top of page 2 for san diego pinch nerve treatment.
If you don't mind, what does "position 1" mean? I certainly am not on page 1 for those terms you mention in.
And to the original question, how reasonable of a goal is to get to page 1 for my website given my competition?
Or, this this not answerable?
Thank you so much! If you are in San Diego you get some free treatment!

Work on your page titles and you'll be a lot closer.
good luck
oh and position #1 is #1 for that search term, however no one will ever search that term, It was my way of showing you your title was too long. Your trying to cover too much real-estate with that title.

Thanks I thought it was all about metatags/keywords. Is there a thread that discusses title page?
also, is this the kind of project that can be easily handled by one like myself, or should I consider hiring an seo pro? I am just ful of more questions apparently....

There's all kinds of Title threads, just use the search box...top right side of the page.

These are things that were applicable to SEO many years ago. There's so much more to SEO and unfortunately your site needs a lot of work!
You've got two options:
1. Hire someone who does SEO for a living.
2. Learn the ropes and do it yourself.
Probably #1 is your best option unless you really really want to do a lot of learning.
I came into this forum a few years ago and knew very little about SEO. I wanted to rank my husband's real estate site and also a veterinary site of mine. People said to me, "You're a vet...spend your time being a vet and HIRE an SEO." Those same people would say to you, "I have back problems. Can you tell me how I can adjust my back?" In reality, it took you years to learn how to become a good chiropractor. SEO is very similar.
In my case, I didn't take their advice and I stuck around these forums and learned a lot. I am SEO obsessed. For the last few years I have spent an average of 2 hours a day, every day, learning and implementing SEO.
There are some basic things that you can do to help your site right away though. Read this:
SEO: The Free Beginner?s Guide From SEOmoz
Once you've got that down, then you can do some research into Local SEO/Google Places optimization.
It's certainly do-able for your site to rank on the first page but it will take some work.

I Think it is very do-able for you to achieve first ranking for your profitable keywords,
However you will need to do a local keyword research, and adjust your website to it. (On page optimization - Titles*** and add content with keyword targeting)
Most of local businesses are doing the same mistakes as you, and that is not performing the right keyword research, so basically they are totally missing the clients who are looking for them.
Also except from writing articles, it is important to do link building to get better ranking.
Another way for you to get to the front page of Google is using Google local, optimize your listing to the right keywords + Register your business in Top directories.
