It depends on the social networking site you have joined. Most of them uses "nofollow" on their links in which Google doesn't count as backlinks.

Even the site uses nofollow google still indexed them.

Many people say this , but hundreds if not thousands ( they are breeding like spam rabbits ) of pligg based social network sites use hidden ( or not so obvious )redirects on their URLS , not "rel-no follow" links , which I think still flows some juice to the final link ( your site ) just slightly better than "rel-no follow" links which according to google give no votes to the linked site at all There are notable exceptions to this rule , one network in particular is very generous to it users and is relatively spam free.
